There are around 16 wineries and cellar doors located in the Greater Hobart region. These wineries are part of the Southern Tasmania region and are a mix of pristine vineyards producing cool-climate varietals.

The Glaetzer-Dixon cellar door is one of the few wineries that’s actually located in Hobart in an old ice-making factory just outside the CBD. The wines are grown in oak barrels and are available for sampling.

Situated in the historic town of Richmond, Pooley Wines is about a 25-minute drive north of Hobart CBD. Their cellar door produces riesling, pinot noir, shiraz and merlot, which is worth sampling. They also offer in-depth structured tastings, local cheeses and daily charcuterie boards. On the weekends, they provide artisan wood-fired pizzas.

Located on the outskirts of Hobart is the Stefano Lubiana cellar door, which is a family-run winery CBD. Stefano Lubiana specialises in biodynamic wines ranging from chardonnay to pinot gris to riesling to pinot noir.

If you’re looking for cool climate wine, then head over to Frogmore Creek. This winery is only 20 minutes south of Hobart CBD and produces the largest, cool-climate winery in the state. Frogmore Creek provides a variety of options such as pinot noir, chardonnay, riesling and sparkling wine. If you’re feeling hungry, then you can visit their restaurant and enjoy the view of the valleys and waterways.

Derwent Estate is only 20 minutes outside a state capital, and focuses on the Tassie classics, chardonnay, pinot noir riesling and pinot gris to sample. Visit their on-site restaurant, The Shed, and try out their food.

One of Tasmania’s oldest wineries is Moorilla and is located just above the MONA museum entrance. Asides from wine tastings, they offer a variety of premium tours and experiences through the Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia program.
