Summer Sunset Walks (Bold Park)

Join the Friends of Bold Park Bushland volunteer guides on a walk exploring the bushland in summer as it cools down in the evening.

Many wild animals hide on a hot summer’s day, emerging in the evening as the sun gets low in the sky and the bushland cools down. Honeyeaters and insects feed on nectar from summer-flowering plants including marri, slender banksia and snakebush. Fairywrens collect a final meal for the day as the cockatoos and corellas fly into their overnight roosts. Listen carefully and you might hear a Painted Button-quail or Quenda scratching around beneath the bushes.

As the sky darkens, orb weaver spiders set up their webs and wolf spiders exit their underground burrows. Geckos come out from the crevices of tree bark as the silhouettes of bats might be seen flying fast overhead. Upon full darkness, possums start feeding in the treetops and owls take up their hunting perches.

This free guided walk is led by the Friends of Bold Park Bushland volunteer guides.

• Approximately 1.5 hours duration.
• Walking grade is moderate with some steeper sections; not suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
• Wear sturdy, closed-in shoes and come dressed for the weather with a hat and drinking water.
• We recommend bringing a torch to light the path after sunset.
• There are no toilets in Bold Park. The nearest toilet facilities are at Perry Lakes Reserve.

All guided walks are free and bookings are generally not required for individuals. Please contact the Friends of Bold Park Bushland if you have a group greater than ten people who wish to attend.
