Description
Join us at His Majesty’s Theatre as we celebrate the extraordinary life and career of Ivan King OAM, one of Perth’s most cherished theatre legends, with special guest Sally Sander.
In this one-off special event, Ivan will share captivating stories from his remarkable career offering a rare opportunity to hear about the magic and drama behind the scenes, from someone who has lived and loved the stage in Perth for over fifty years.
A veteran of countless number of plays, revues, musicals, and operettas, Ivan is also the creator and founder of the Museum of Performing Arts (MOPA). He has devoted his life to preserving and telling the rich history of Australia’s performing arts.
After major tours of the Eastern States and New Zealand, Ivan spent 18 months in children’s theatre programs before working in small repertory companies in regional England. Returning to Perth, he enjoyed a long run of 13 theatre-restaurant revues at the old Civic Theatre in Inglewood. Over the following decades, he played a wide range of roles at the Playhouse, the Regal Theatre, the Hayman Theatre, His Majesty’s Theatre, and The Hole In The Wall. In 2009, he received the Premier’s Award for Active Citizenship, and in 2016, he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the performing arts as a historian and archivist.
Come along and share in the celebration of Ivan’s incredible journey in the world of theatre - a night full of rich history, personal anecdotes, and the enduring spirit of the performing arts in Western Australia.
