Description
Jo Darvall's latest body of work draws inspiration from Walt Whitman's poem Elemental Drifts.
Like Whitman, she examines themes of nature, democracy, and interconnectedness, embracing a free-flowing, intuitive approach. Her works are informed by her lifelong relationship with the land, shaped by childhood horse rides through Victoria's green countryside and later, her exploration of Western Australia's vivid, untamed colours.
Her paintings explore the forces that shape our world, both nurturing and destructive, while inviting viewers to engage deeply with the landscape. This connection to place fuels her creative process - she paints instinctively, without constraint, allowing the landscape to become her muse.
